Enjoy Japanese tradition in a kimono surrounded by Hagi's old cityscape
The Edo period atmosphere still lingers in the streets of Hagi. Kimono Week is a popular event when we can enjoy the traditional atmosphere of Hagi through wearing kimono. Experience Japanese culture hands-on, and as you don the kimono, take part in activities making traditional Japanese crafts.
Kimonos are available to rent at Kimono shops in the city. When you have finished changing, why not go out and explore Hagi’s old castle town – a registered World Heritage Site? On weekends and holidays, a photographing service is available with our volunteer photographers on standby to give you a memento of the day!
Take a step back in time to the Edo period.
Hagi Bamboo Lamp Festival
The evening event, "Hagi Bamboo Lamp Festival," will be held from October 10th to the 12th.For these three days, bamboo lanterns will line the streets around the castle town, their gentle candlelight illuminating the historic district. Why not stroll through the castle town in a kimono and experience the magic for yourself? A fantastical scene awaits you.The event will also feature the "Hagi Local Sake Tasting Campaign!" If you wear a kimono, you can enjoy a free tasting!
