Approximately 25,000 wild camellia trees in full bloom!
This forest of camellia trees located in the Toragasaki area on Mt. Kasa in Hagi consists of approximately 25,000 blooming wild camellia trees over an area of about 10 hectares.
Mt. Kasa’s camellia forest has been logged numerous times, and each time the trees are cut down, new cross-breeding takes place, resulting in distinct varieties of wild camellia. Visitors are treated to a rich variety of flowers that have been classified into 60 types based on flower shape and color, blooming period, and leaf characteristics.
Blooming period: early January to late March
The camellias usually bloom from mid-February to late March. Visitors can enjoy both the colorful camellia blossoms on the tall camellia trees and the red carpet that forms on the ground from fallen camellia blossoms.
The Hagi Camellia Festival is held each year during the period when the colorful camellia blossoms are best viewed.
