Tsurue ferryboat

鶴江の渡し

Ferryboats that preserve a traditional landscape and the heritage of the past.

During the Edo period, there were only two bridges that provided access to the river delta: Matsumoto Bridge and Hashimoto Bridge. Those bridges aside, crossings had to be done by ferry. Even today, there is no bridge between the Tsurue and Hamasaki districts. To get across on foot, one has to take a detour of 20 to 30 minutes or so. For that reason, the Tsurue ferry crossing is still in use by residents today to get between Tsuruedai and Hamasaki. Its official name is the Municipal Hamasaki-Tsurue Route. The ferry is free for people to ride.
